AFL Europe Champions League is a one-day tournament were all the Champions of the leagues around Europe meet to find out who is the better team. The Lionesses was therefore in Amsterdam to fight for the titel as Champions of Europe. It was a sunny day with some extremely close games and a high level of football.

 Pool game, Hamburg Dockers – Odense Lionesses

In the first minutes of the game, Hamburg came at us with unexpected physicality and determination, even scoring the first point of the game, barely kept at bay by our experienced Back Line. Halfway through the first quarter, the intensity in our girls lifted starting in the middel then spread to the rest of the team, going into halftime in front with 0.1(1) to 1.2(8). We had found our footing, and with our intensity now matching theirs, we fought a game of inches ending in our favor 0.3(3) to 3.3(21). Goalscorers: Liv T (2), Maria F (1).

Pool game, Port Malmø Lynx – Odense Lionesses

We started this game against our old rivals with the wind on our backs, allowing us to impact the scoreboard early, making it 0.2(2) – 2.0(12) at halftime. While we were kept scoreless against the wind and suffered multiple injury during this game, we were able to limit their efficiency in front of the sticks for a full time result of 1.3(9) – 2.0(12). Goalscorers: Liv T (1), Lene P (1).

Semi Final, Odense Lionesses – Wandsworth Demons

This game against the reigning champions really tested our young dwindled squad. While we were scoreless in the first quarter and our back line under constant assault 0.0(0) – 4.3(), we did get scoring attempts in the second half and forced them to let a goal in. Full time 1.2(8) – 7.5(47). Goalscorers: Amanda T (1).

Bronze game, Odense Lionesses – Port Malmø Lynx

Our last game of the day and our chance at a 3rd place. At this point of the competition, fatigue is a major factor for both teams. We lost the wind in the coin toss, and this time they were able to produce on it going into halftime with 0.0(0) – 2.1(13). We came from behind in the second half, even taking the lead before a reequalization, but finally losing by a last second point. 2.2(14) – 2.3(15). Goalscorers: Daniela M (1), Maria F (1).

The Lionesses finished 4th in the tournament and can be very proud of how well they played. The many new players showed that there is plenty of potentiel in them and that they are to be feared. Go Lionesses!
